Water Quality The water quality of the New Meuse (Dutch: Nieuwe Maas) is fine. Today, the New Meuse's waters flow cleaner than they have in decades and this branch of the Rhine-Meuse delta in the Netherlands is considered one of the healthiest estuaries on the North Sea. Its rich history and striking environmental recovery from the Meuse as first fully industrialized area in continental Europe. Years of hard work by dedicated scientists, politicians, and river-lovers have opened the Rhine-Meuse shores to swimming, fishing, and boating. Revitalized public beaches, boat launches, parks, and angling spots dot the New Meuse shores.

Rondje Noordereiland is an annual Open Water Swimming event of 3 km which bring people together and celebrate our precious water resources by swimming around the Noordereiland in the city center of Rotterdam at the last Sunday of July.
